Lisa Williams
- She sees dead people - 20081102
ALEXIS DOW
Renowned psychic Lisa Williams, star of Life time's "Lisa
Williams: Life Among The Dead," will do her thing at
The Forum on Wednesday.
I caught up with Lisa for a phone interview,
and asked her how she first knew she had special abilities.
"I was a child, maybe 3 or 4," she
said. "But I didn't know there was anything unique about
it. I could 'see dead people,' if you want to call it that.
But I just figured I had an active imagination."
When Lisa was in her early 20s, she was working
in an office and doing psychic readings as a side job. Word
got out that she was pretty good at it, so when she lost that
office job, becoming a full-time medium seemed like the obvious
choice. A few years later, Williams was in the U.S. on vacation
(or "holiday," as she put it) and performed a reading
that would end up landing her a TV job. How, you ask?
"I got very sick and ended up extending
my stay about 10 days," she said. "Then I met Merv
Griffin."
Whaaaaaaa?
Yes, friends, the stars aligned and Lisa Williams
just happened to meet Merv Griffin on a random trip to the
United States. It's totally true.
"I did a reading on someone who worked
for him, and he heard about me," she said. "He was
thinking about doing a TV show on psychics, so we met and
he ended up putting 'Lisa Williams: Life Among the Dead' on
Lifetime."
On her show, Williams does cold readings of
people on the street as well as planned readings in people's
homes. The show has been such a huge success that after two
seasons, Lifetime has created another show for her -- "Lisa
Williams: Voices from the Other Side," which begins Monday.
The new show explores some of the best moments from "Life
Among the Dead" as well as some never-before-seen readings.

Williams also has a new book, called "Life
Among the Dead," that tells her personal story and gives
advice to people who might be having psychic experiences.
"A lot of people [who are having psychic
experiences] need help and understanding to know that what
they're feeling is normal and they're OK," Williams said.
I asked Williams if she thought that everyone
has some sort of psychic ability. She told me she definitely
believes that we all have certain psychic abilities, but some
of us are better at honing and understanding them than others.
