Ghost stories from kids - 20081103

Granddaddy

Shondrea, Towles Intermediate Montessori

One day I was asleep on the couch. I awoke to a funny smell of pipe smoking tobacco, and in the doorway stood my granddaddy who who had been dead since I was 11. And it would’ve been OK but I had never seen him without his walker. He was wounded in World War II at Pearl Harbor, and of course I thought I was seeing things.

I knew he was dead and on top of that I was so afraid of dead people, but this time it was different. It was like we were in our own world so I got up because I was going to run, but I didn’t. He turned and started to walk up the stairs and I had to follow for some reason. He never said a word.

He started to climb the first flight of stairs and I could hear him stepping up each stair. He began to climb the second set of stairs. Then just as he got to the top, he disappeared. I could no longer smell sweet pipe burning and the feeling I had just left, and I knew he was gone.

The Evil Eye

Aubrey, Towles Intermediate Montessori

There was once an old man who had an illness of his eye that made his eye look strange. So he hired a servant to take care of him. One day the old man was afraid that he would die, so he asked the servant to come and check on him every night.

One particular night the servant was going into the room to check on the man, and the man woke up. The servant was so scared of the man’s icy blue eyes that he took the mattress off the man’s bed, which made the man fall to the ground. Then he laid the mattress on top of the man. The man struggled to get the mattress off himself, but he suffocated and died.

The servant heard someone scream. He knew that he was in big trouble, so he took the boards off the floor and put the dead man under them. Then he nailed the boards back down.

Suddenly he heard sirens and sat down like he had not done anything. The police came in and asked the man if he had done something that he shouldn’t have done; he simply said, “No.”

The servant was getting nervous about lying to the police. Then he thought that he heard the old man’s heart beating. He screamed in fear, “OK. I did it! I killed the old man!”

The heartbeat he had really heard was his own. He was arrested and taken to jail.

Haunted School Bus

Kathryn, St. Joseph Hessen Cassel Catholic School

It was 3 a.m. on Monday morning and Bill looked out the window at the bus stop. There was a haunted school bus. But Bill did not know it was haunted. Bill started to get ready because he did not know it was 3 a.m. He thought it was 7:50 a.m.

When he was ready, he went to the bus. When he opened the door, a skeleton was the driver. Bill thought that it was a costume. He was the only one on the bus. He was a little scared. There were spiderwebs all over. The seats were torn up. It was very scary!

He looked out the bus window and saw the clock in the bedroom window. It said 3 a.m. He ran to the driver and said, “I want to get off this bus now!” Then the skeleton said, “Once you are on, you can’t get off!”

Bill sat back down and began to cry. The skeleton said, “You can get off. I’m tired of your crying!”

The bus stopped and Bill ran off. He went straight home and hugged his mom and dad.

Haunted Principal’s Office

Jessica, St. Joseph Hessen Cassel Catholic School

Once there was a haunted principal’s office. There were dry bones in there. She has a cage to put you in if you are in trouble. One night my friends and I went into the office and saw what was in her desk. There was a sharp, sharp pencil and a pocketknife.

A dog stays overnight in the office. There was a haunted light that would not shine on the principal but would shine at the kids. Then we got scared so we went to our parents and told them about it.

I went to get a flashlight. My parents came with me. I went in first. It was scary! My mom and dad ran home fast. I said, “I will die if I ever go in there again!”

The Spirit of Kathleen

Zachary, Haley Elementary School

What are ghosts? Some people say ghosts are spirits of dead people. Some say they live in old houses, graveyards and cellars. I say there is a ghost at my mom’s work at Allen County Cardiology named Kathleen.

They call her the lady in the white dress. Several employees have had encounters with her. Lawrence, a nurse, saw her in the basement and asked if he could help her, only to have her vanish right in front of his eyes.

Her presence is often felt by the disappearance of charts, stethoscopes and blood pressure cuffs. At night there are really strange noises and her voice is heard throughout the building. Once when I was there I felt something brush past me when I was in the kitchen. My hair stood up on the back of my neck. They say her favorite thing to do was to cook meals for her husband, so it made sense I would find her there.

I never felt scared or threatened, just a little spooked. All of the employees think she just likes to be remembered and have a lot of fun by taking their things. I believe in ghosts … do you?

Haunted Hotel Room

Madison, Haley Elementary School

One Halloween night, two teenagers were walking in a hallway at the Capper Hotel. They were on their way to a Halloween party in Room 666 on the 13th floor, and the room was supposed to be haunted.

When Hannah and Tyler got up to the room, the party had just started, and at midnight they started telling ghost stories. They turned off the lights and shut all the doors. At 12:05 a.m. the flashlight went out and a shriek of horror filled the room. Finally when somebody turned on the lights, they saw that Tracy was missing. They all found her lying in the hallway. She said, “Somebody pulled the back of my ponytail and dragged me to the hallway.”

Ronnie asked, “What did the person look like?”

“Well, it was a woman. She was wearing a pitch-black dress with black high heels,” Tracy said. Then Dylan asked, “Was she young or old and what was the color of her hair?”

“Her hair color is black and she was young.” Tracy got up off the ground and they went down to the front desk to tell the gentleman about what happened. But when they got there, no one was around; everything looked abandoned.

Everybody gathered back in Room 666 and grabbed their things and left the Capper Hotel. Everyone was scared to stay after what had happened to Tracy. Hannah looked up the ghost and the Capper Hotel on the computer when she got home. She found out the hotel had burned down 25 years ago; the staff and a woman had all died. Now they were all ghosts and haunting the hotel.

A Spooky Story

Christian, Towles Intermediate Montessori

Once upon a time there was a little boy in a cave, but he never came out. Everybody wondered about the boy, but all of them were too afraid to go in the small cave.

Over these past years, they still wondered, and wondered, and wondered. They wondered what he ate; they wondered if the boy was being taken care of. But of course he was taken care of because really brave people went into the cave, and guess what they found?

They found bulls with human faces! And that was just the beginning.

Suspects

Jason, Towles Intermediate Montessori

It was Tuesday when it all started. I was reading the newspaper, and three men in a gang were on the loose, looking for money to steal. I was really scared! They said one guy in the group never said his name when they asked him what it was. They said that guy is the leader.

The other guys’ names were Jarry and Plack. Jarry and Plack were goof offs. Plack had big earrings, a clown suit and a hook for a hand. Jarry had a long-sleeve shirt, little ears, long neck, a crown and huge eyes. However, the gang leader just had a jail shirt and a black ski mask. They all like to steal from rich people.

One day they decided to come to my house and steal. They couldn’t come to my house, I thought. We have doors locked and windows closed. So I went to bed that night. I heard footsteps going Thump! Thump! Thump! Thump! across the upstairs bedroom. I went up to see my dad lying down on the floor with my mom and sister knocked out.

They grabbed me but I jumped away. Then Plack jumped too, but he tripped and fell down the stairs. Then Jarry chased me, but he fell in my messy room. But the guy that I call Sonar threw a knife at me. I took the biggest toy I could find and I threw it at him, and he took the chute to the basement, and the cops came to get him.

The Purple Gorilla

Arianna, Towles Intermediate Montessori

Once it was a dark and spooky night and Camp Potawatomi. All the campers were in the Mess Hall except three. Those three were gone, gone forever. I will tell you the story.

One day three snotty girls, who liked to play pranks, went to Camp Potawatomi. No one wanted to be in their cabin. All the counselors were too nice to deserve these girls. So they got the deserted cabin. Now counselors said there was a purple gorilla who was in the basement but of course the snotty girls did not believe a word they said. Now the story of the purple gorilla begins.

One day a mad scientist’s son went into the basement of the house. He was not supposed to go down there. The boy heard a sound. Bang! Bang! Bang! He wondered what it was so he went in. Then all of the sudden… Bang! Bang! Bang! The cage broke and out came the purple gorilla. But before the father could help, the purple gorilla gobbled them both up. That is the story of the purple gorilla, and now you have a better idea of what is going on.

So the girls went down in the basement, thinking that nothing was down there. But after awhile they heard moans and groans. They were so scared they ran up to their cabin and slammed the door. But all night the moans and groans kept them up. Then in the morning they got struck by lightening and died. They think it was the spirit of the purple gorilla. Now the girls haunt Camp Potawatomi by playing pranks on the campers like they did when they were alive!

Ghostly Son

Foster, Haley Elementary School

One time in the cellar of a building there was a poor man trying to get out.

“Help, I want out, let me out!” But no one helped him. But then he heard something.

“Who is there?” he yelled. A silent WHOOSH! went by him and then… “Boo!”

“AHHHHHHHHHHH!” he said.

“Oh, I thought you were one of those school bullies. Sorry!” the thing that screamed boo said.

“Who are you?” the poor man said.

“I’m a ghost and my name is Billie.”

“Billie? My name is Billie, too. Weird, huh? And I had a son named Billie Jr. No offense, how did you, you know, die?” he asked.

“It’s a very long story, and I don’t like to talk about it.”

“OK, and that son I had, well, he died.”

Billie the ghost tried to pry the cellar door open with his hands. It worked. You are free to go. That is what the ghost thought. Billie (the human) walked away and turned around. “Aren’t you gonna come with me?”

“This is my home,” the ghost said. “Goodbye.”

From that day forward Billie the human did not know that Billie the ghost was actually, Billie Jr.

The Ghost Before Night

Brianna, Haley Elementary School

One scary night a ghost

Was in the park at night.

The ghost was doing some reading

Then the ghost was playing in the dark.

The ghost was having a lot of fun.

And then the ghost went home.

In his soft bed reading a good book.

The Haunted Creek

Chase, St. Joseph Hessen Cassel Catholic School

There once was a boy named Tom and his friend Tim. They liked to play a lot. One day the haunted creek was born. They were playing by the creek.

The haunted creek is hungry and eats the kids. The parents went looking, but couldn’t find them. The parents called the police. They went looking, but could not find them either. The kids were gone forever!

Halloween went by and the kids were never found. The haunted creek struck again.

The police were looking by the creek. The creek was hungry again and ate a policeman. It was mysterious! They never found the secret of the haunted creek. The creek never appeared again and the people were gone forever!

The Scary House

Nick, St. Joseph Hessen Cassel Catholic School

There was a scary house that my brother told me about. I didn’t believe him. I had to go see it myself. It took a while to get there. When I got there, it seemed really scary from the outside. I thought to myself, “I hope I will survive.”

I decided to open the door and go inside. I walked up the stairs. They were very steep. There were three doors to go into. I decided to go into the first door. There were 60 bones and five dead people. The dead people came back to life. I became even more scared.

I tried to run out the door but I couldn’t. The dead people got to the door first and shut it. I died inside that house.

The Haunted House

Jacob, St. Joseph Hessen Cassel Catholic School

I heard stories about that house. The house is old and falling down. The man that lives there always wears a mask and he is dead. When he died, he put a curse on the house. If you go in his yard, the house will eat you.

After he eats you, he will spit you out as larva. The curse can only be broken on Halloween night by children who bring treats in his yard. See you at the house on Halloween.
